Almost my exact predictions. I had Edmonton and Calgary swapped spots though.

Leafs are without a doubt the most talented team. Vancouver has nice upside, but this screams a year they take a step back before going forward. The Habs contracts they signed may be a concern in the future., but I do feel as well they finish 2nd.

WTF....no guarantee the new Habs players (Tiffoli, Anderson, Edmunston, Perry, Frolik and Allen) will gel quickly enough to save the season. I think they will challenge for a playoffs spot but I would be very surprised if they challenge for the division lead.

The Habs season will ride on Suzuki and KK taking a big step forward, Suzuki is 21yrs, KK is 20....is it the year they take that big step....who knows.

Toronto fans are absolutely overestimating what Brodie will do for their club.

Their is almost no difference between 1 to 6.

Vancouver likely has the best defense in the division with Harmonic to anchor their bottom pairing while Quinn, Schmidt, Myers, and Edler is a group that while not amazing is likely tops.

I think the whole division is going to be extremely close, it feels like a total crapshoot to predict it.

If I had to, I think it'll go something like this:

Edmonton
Montreal
Toronto
Calgary
Vancouver
Winnipeg
Ottawa

In my pools, i refrained from selecting many players from the Canadian division.
They have the best core of goalies ion the entire league.

Price/Anderson/Hellebuyk/Markstrom/Holtby. Even Murray is not that far off. Really this is where Edmonton is far behind the other teams. I have a feeling goal scoring won't be as easy among these team.

My prediction for the year was Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa.

Something about Calgary I like as a unit.

I think with a short season, and no pre-season games, teams with scoring talent may be able to jump ahead in the first 10 games or so, and teams that rely on tight systems may not be able to regain ground with 26 less games.

Toronto and Edmonton could really take advantage of the early pond hockey type games. Montreal is fast and feisty, so that could help early on too.

Or maybe Toronto fans are looking at all the other good players on the roster besides Brodie? Marner, Matthews, Nylander are all 23 and 24 this year.

I think you are absolutely underestimating replacing Cody Ceci with TJ Brodie, and removing Barrie (who isnt great defensively) will do for the Leafs blueline. Also, the Leafs have other amazing players who will get better.

Schmidt is good, but he is over hyped IMO.

how about the only team in the league that had 5 - 20 goal scorers last year. would a team like that be able to jump out to?

The problem with the Leafs is they don't defend well, other than Ottawa they gave up the most GA of all the Canadian teams. All the teams have their strengths and weaknesses, it's going to be fun to see how it plays out.
